Grants for New England Partnership In 2004, 25 member banks received $1,000 awards from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston's Grants for New England Partnerships program. Members receiving awards distribute them to nonprofits of their choice. Every year the Bank makes $25,000 in cash awards available under the program.

Eligible for awards last year were members who enrolled in the Bank's new Project Listing Service. The service allows nonprofit and for-profit developers to list projects for which they are seeking funding. Member financial institutions then access the service through a secure section of the Bank's web site and respond to initiatives they deem valuable lending and investment opportunities.

Award recipients last year included the Wellesley Co-Operative Bank, which divided its $1,000 award among three nonprofits: A Better Chance, an organization offering inner-city youth the chance to be educated in suburban schools; the Special Olympics, an international year-round program of sports training and competition for people with mental retardation; and the American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization that provides relief to victims of disasters.
