WHAT IS AFFORDABLE HOUSING?

For the purposes of the competition, affordable housing is defined as:

Shelter in which at least 40 percent of the units can be sold or rented to a household that is earning no more than 60 percent of the area median household income, as defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Proposals are not limited to new construction projects. Acquisition/rehabilitation projects are allowed, as long as the end product is affordable to the group described above. The recommended project size is eight units or more.
