the Bank's New England Smart Growth Symposium was Don
Chen, founding director of Smart Growth America, a nationwide
coalition promoting a better way to grow.
About Don Chen
The founding director of Smart Growth America, Don Chen co-chairs
the board of the Environmental Leadership Program, serves
on the boards of West Harlem Environmental Action and the
Institute for Location Efficiency, and serves on the advisory
board of Grist magazine. He is also vice chair of the
Congress for the New Urbanism's Transportation Task Force
and an associate member of the Northeast Environmental Justice
Network.
Mr. Chen has written many articles and publications about
smart-growth issues, including those for Scientific American,
Smart Growth America, the Natural Resources Defense Council,
New Society Publishers, and the World Resources Institute.
Before founding Smart Growth America, Mr. Chen was research
director at the Surface Transportation Policy Project and
a researcher at the Rocky Mountain Institute and the World
Resources Institute. He has a bachelors degree in political
science from Yale College and a masters degree from
the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies.
